Deadvlei Tree and Stars I
We got to spend an hour after sunset in Deadvlei with a half moon. This is my favorite shot of the trip. Taken later when the Milky Way was almost horizontal and clear of the tree. The moonlight illuminated the pan and the tree. In fact you can see the shadow of the tree behind it and to its left.
Deadvei Tree and Mist II
We were incredibly lucky in our visit to Deadvlei. There had been an incredibly rare rainfal two days before and there was mist in the pan at dawn which made for these beautiful and unusual images.

Soussevlei Dunes I
Soussevlei Dune Echo
Exiting Deadvlei, these mesa like dunes formed a nice pair.
Soussevlei Weird Dune Shapes
Soussevlei Helicopter Desert Light
As we were returning to the airport, the sun was getting low. The contrasting light bdetween the higher , brighter and lower, darker areas and the shadows cast by the low trees made for a lovely shot.
Soussevlei Helicopter Dune Detail I
The dunes in low afternoon light offer an infinite variety of patterns. This is one of my favorites.
Soussevlei Helicopter Abstract I
We took a late afternoon helicopter flight and got to see the dunes from the air.
Soussevlei Helicopter Textured Dune I
The dunes of Soussevlei are famous for their shape and color. In low afternoon light from a helicopter they offer infinite possibiilities. I added a background texture of flowing water (interesting choice for desert dunes) that complement the flow of the dunes.

Kolmanskop Slatted Roof Interior I
Kolmanskop is an abandoned diamond mining town that is slowly being taken over by the desert. This room is normally illuminated by sunlight streaming through the roof slats. We were there when it was raining, the first rain since 2012 and the heaviest since 2006. Instead, we have the pattern of raindrops on the sand. An unsual shot.

Kolmanskop is an abandoned diamond mining town that is slowly being taken over by the desert. The neatly framed doorways and the "floating" door make an interesting composition.

Quiver Tree and Setting Moon
The quiver trees are unique to this spot in Namibia. This was taken after sunset, but before sky was dark enough for the night shots.
Spitzkoppe Arch and Milky Way
This is the arch under which Sunburst I was taken. We light painted the arch and surrounding rocks during one of the exposures. This shot is a composite of 12 exposures.
Spitzkoppe Arch Sunburst III
This was taken at the smaller of the two rock arches at Spitzkoppe just as the sun was setting.
